Katana

I modeled this sword after a Japanese style katana.  I wanted it to be water themed.

So I modeled the "Hamon" or waves on the blade to look like waves.  The "tsuba" or hand guard has

waves sculpted on it.  The piece right below has a cresting wave sculpted on it as well as the kanji for

water as well.  The "menuki" (used to hold the bamboo dowel in the handle) is sculpted to be a carp.  On the blade is a Japanese haiku that reads

"the old pond,

a frog jumps in,

the sound of water"

This piece was modeled in 3d max, sculpted in zbrush and textured in substance painter.
